Workers who inhale dust containing crystalline silica particles from sandblasting or tunneling through rock may develop silicosis, an incurable lung disease that progresses even after dust exposure cease. Those same exposures also may cause lung cancer. More than a million American workers are exposed to silica dust annually, and thousands worldwide die each year from silicosis.
We are one of the few law firms in this country that represents victims of silicosis. We have recovered several millions of dollars in settlements for our silicosis clients. Our silicosis clients have included a young construction worker who was exposed to dangerously high levels of silica created by the giant tunnel-boring machines that drilled Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority subway tunnels in Maryland and Washington, D.C. and a water tunnel in the District. Another of our silicosis clients developed the disease after years of work as a sandblaster for a local brick and wall cleaning company.
